Reasons for picking this hotel:

Due to a last-minute schedule change, instead of going to Tokyo over New Year, I found myself in Bangkok. This also meant I had some time to visit my cousin who was vacationing in Koh Lanta, near Krabi. Even though it was peak season I was able to book the same hotel they were staying at for a reasonable price as well as secure a rental car.

Transportation / Access:

Koh Lanta is an island with boat service from Ao Nang, as well as serviced by van + ferry combo from the mainland. I rented a car as I wanted to go off the beaten path but keep in mind for most itineraries a car is not necessary.

Room summary:

The bungalow feels like it is in the middle of the jungle with a rustic wood deck and two plastic chairs and a hammock outside. Unfortunately there were many mosquitoes so I did not end up enjoying too much time outside on the deck. Walking inside, the main room is cozy with a double bed raking up most of the room. Two face towels were provided on a towel rack. Furnishings were sparse and the decor dated. Two more bath towels were provided on the bed.

There was a small safe mounted on the wall, and a hair dryer resting on top of it.  On the desk there were two glasses, and two coffee cups as well as a hot water kettle. A mini-fridge at the side of the bed with two bottles of water rounded out the room.

The bathroom was very basic and the type where the shower and toilet were all in the same space and everything can get wet at the same time. No amenities were provided except for some shampoo and body soap. I provided my own toothbrush and toothpaste.

The pool and pool-bar was nice, I had a beer and relaxed there for a little bit.

Without a doubt though, the star of the show was not the hotel but the beautiful beach which was just 5 minutes walk away. Gorgeous sunsets and plenty of vendors providing food and drink on the beach.

Koh Lanta

Check-in was a reasonable 14:00 and check-out at 11:00

Final thoughts

The room is very basic, and quite old, but hey for the price and last minute I’m not going to complain. Besides if you’re going there you’re probably spending most of your time at the beach or the pool bar.
